Milestone Reached on Road to IPv4 Exhaustion

This week, LACNIC became the first of the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) to reach its last /9 (eight million) IPv4 addresses. This triggered a global policy for IANA to make equal allocations from its recovered pool of IPv4 addresses to each of the RIRs. This news demonstrates the growing importance of widespread IPv6 deployment to protect the future growth of the Internet.
